FAQs
We make things to be used, lived with, and enjoyed. If you have a question that isn't answered here, send us a note, we'll get back to you as soon as we can.-
Are all your pieces handmade?
Yes. Everything we make is produced in our studio using a mix of hands on craft, thoughtful design, and modern tools. Because of that, every piece will have small variations that make it uniquely its own.
Do you take custom orders?
Sometimes. If you have an idea, send it our way. The worst we can say is no, and we may just find something we'd love to make.
Where do your materials come from?
We choose materials based on quality, performance, and how well they suit the work. Whenever possible, we source as locally as we can and are continually looking for better ways to work with the materials we use.
-
Are your ceramics dishwasher safe?
Yes. Our ceramics are dishwasher safe and made for everyday use.
Are your ceramics microwave safe?
Yes!
Are your ceramics oven safe?
Yes. Our dinnerware can be placed in the oven for short periods of time at or below 200°F. It is not intended for baking or extended time in the oven. As with any ceramic, avoid sudden temperature changes.
Are your ceramics food safe?
Yes. Our tableware is made and glazed for use with food.
Can I put your ceramics in the freezer?
Yes. Just avoid rapid temperature changes when moving pieces between the freezer, oven, microwave, or other extreme temperatures.
Why does my piece look a little different from the one pictured?
That's part of the nature of handmade work. Glazes can vary slightly in color and surface, and there may be small differences in proportion or form from piece to piece. We carefully inspect everything we make to make sure it stays true to the design.
If you're ordering a set and want the pieces to be as close as possible, we recommend ordering them together. We'll do our best to pack and ship pieces from the same batch together.
-
How durable are your wooden goods?
Our wooden goods are made to be used. Wood will naturally change over time as it is exposed to water, sunlight, handling, and the elements. Scratches, darkening, and patina are all part of the life of the material.
How do I maintain a wooden net?
Each net is sealed with multiple coats of a penetrating exterior oil finish to protect against water and weather. A light fresh coat of oil from time to time will keep it looking and performing its best.
Seasonal Care:Apply pure tung oil seasonally to preserve the wood’s natural finish:
Wipe the wood clean of dust or dirt.
Apply a light coat of tung oil with a soft cloth.
Let it soak for 10–15 minutes.
Wipe off all excess.
Let it cure overnight.
No need to remove the net bag.
Can my wooden goods get wet?
Yes. Our outdoor wooden goods are made to get wet and are finished accordingly. Regular care will help maintain the wood and finish over time.
-
How long does it take to ship my order?
For in-stock goods, we aim to ship within one week. We're a small studio, so this gives us enough room to balance packing orders with making the work itself.
Where do you ship?
We currently ship within the United States.
How much is shipping?
Shipping is calculated at checkout based on your order and destination.
Do you offer local pickup?
Yes. We're working out the details of our local pickup process now. If you select local pickup at checkout, we'll be in touch with the details once your order is ready.
What if something is out of stock?
We're still getting our studio up and running, so restocks may not follow a regular schedule just yet. We make things in batches and will share new work and restocks on Instagram, so that's the best place to keep up with what's coming.
-
Do you accept returns or exchanges?
Because our work is handmade in small batches, we currently do not accept returns or exchanges. We want you to feel good about what you receive, though, so if there's an issue with your order, please reach out and we'll do our best to make it right.
Damaged or Defective Orders
My order arrived damaged. What should I do?
Things don't always make the trip as gracefully as we'd like. If your order arrives damaged or something isn't right, reach out to us as soon as possible. We'll ask for a few details and photos so we can figure out what happened and get it sorted.
Still Have a Question?Need to get in touch? Drop us a note at hello@barnswallowstudio.com. We spend a little more time working in the studio than checking our inbox, so give us a day or two to resurface.
